ETA-CRN Meeting 2011

Dear Colleagues,

European Thyroid Association members may remember the initiative of closer cooperation with the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons raised by Professor Hennig Dralle on the last ETA General Assembly. This idea was welcomed and this year, as an effect of this interaction, we are planning to focus on problems of thyroid cancer surgical management during joint session of ETA-CRN and ESES organized as Satellite Session of 35th Annual ETA Meeting in Kraków. It is expected that cooperation between ETA and ESES will be extended to other fields of thyroid surgery. This year our common intention is to focus on Challenging questions at the borderline of thyroid cancer surgery. The subject raised during planned joint meeting would cover the questions if total thyroidectomy for benign thyroid disease improve outcomes of treatment for incidentally diagnosed thyroid cancer, what to do when a total thyroidectomy has not been performed at initial surgery and in which patients, or is it time to base therapeutic decisions on the BRAF status of thyroid tumors. We also wish to present current status in the management of FDG-PET incidentalomas – positive hotspots in the thyroid gland found when doing PET scan for other reasons. There would be also lectures on medullary thyroid cancer: cut-off for surgical intervention in postoperative hypercalcitoninaemia or is it time to use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in microdisseminated medullary thyroid cancer?
The detailed program of Satellite Symposium is available here and under www.eta2011.com. All of you are welcome to visit our website and the official Meeting website to see the program of session and to register to ETA-CRN Meeting on Saturday, September 10th, 2011.
We are sure the cooperation with the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons will bring benefits to us all.

We hope to see many of you in Krakow!

Barbara Jarzab (ETA-CRN Secretary)
